Maximize your AMS efficiency and expand your color library without cluttering your workshop. The Bambu Reusable Spool (Low Temp Edition) is the official structural framework designed specifically for the Bambu Lab filament refill ecosystem.

Molded from high-grade white ABS, this spool is optimized for standard, low-temperature materials like PLA and PETG. It allows you to easily buy cost-effective bare filament refills, slide them onto this master frame, and twist-lock them into place. It takes both 1 kg and 250 g Bambu refills. It delivers a perfect factory fit every time, ensuring smooth feeding whether rolling inside the Automatic Material System (AMS) or spinning on a standard rear spool mount.

Core Highlights

  • Refill System Savings: Lowers your net cost per roll by letting you purchase bare Bambu refill rings instead of buying a brand-new plastic cartridge every single time.
  • Flawless AMS Integration: Standardized 200 × 200 × 67 mm dimensions provide precise rolling clearance inside the Bambu Lab AMS, eliminating friction-induced feeding errors or jams.
  • Visual Material Management: Molded in crisp white to let you instantly differentiate your low-temperature materials (PLA, PETG) from your black high-temperature engineering spools (ABS, ASA, Nylon) at a glance across the room.

Assembly & Loading Instructions

Loading a fresh filament refill onto your master spool takes less than a minute. Follow these simple steps to ensure a perfect seat:

  1. Locate & Align: Turn the spool counterclockwise to open it (the wide half is on the left). If your refill is a 250 g roll, keep its cardboard core in place. Find the small physical locator block on the inner barrel of the Wide Piece. Align this block precisely with the corresponding notch stamped on the inner core ring of your new filament refill roll, then slide the wide piece into the roll.
  2. Insert & Press: Take the Narrow Piece and insert it from the opposite side. Align the interlocking internal grooves of both pieces, pushing them firmly together until they are flush.
  3. Twist to Lock: Grip both halves securely, rotate the narrow piece clockwise relative to the wide piece until it slides cleanly into its track and you hear a distinct, physical click lock.
  4. Shim & Strip: Ensure the spacing shims are properly nested inside the spool configuration (retained right under the alignment triangle). Once the structure is completely locked, you are ready to secure the filament end.
  5. Secure the End: If your refill has a clear protective strap, peel off only the section closest to the filament's leading end, push that end into the round hole on the spool so it can't loosen, then remove the rest of the strap.
  6. Press & Label: Check both sides of the roll. If there is a gap between the filament coil and the spool, press the edge of the coil by hand until it sits flush — this prevents tangles. Finally, replace the old label with the one that came with your new refill.

Real-World Maker Tips

  • The "No Mid-Roll Swapping" Rule: This reusable spool is engineered to host a single refill ring from start to finish. Do NOT attempt to disassemble the spool or swap filament colors before a roll has been completely consumed. Opening the spool early releases the wound kinetic tension, causing the filament loop to instantly unravel, bird-nest, and become permanently tangled. If you want to run multiple active refill colors concurrently, ensure you stock up on multiple master spools.
  • How RFID Tracking Works: You don't lose automatic material detection by switching to refills. The smart RFID data chips are built directly into the inner rings of the individual Bambu Lab Refill Filament packages, not the permanent spool frame. Every time you drop a fresh refill color onto this spool, your AMS will instantly recognize the new material type, color profile, and inventory tracking data automatically.
  • Drying Limit (70°C): This spool is rated for 70°C. Drying in the AMS 2 Pro (max 65°C) is fine. The AMS HT can dry at up to 85°C — never run a cycle above 70°C with this spool loaded, or it can warp. For hotter drying or engineering filaments, use the black High Temp spool.
  • Refills That Fit: Any Bambu PLA or PETG refill, such as PLA Basic Refill or PLA Lite Refill.

About this product

How does the refill system actually save me money?
Instead of buying a full plastic cartridge spool every time you need a new color or run out, you buy this reusable master frame once and then purchase cheaper bare refill rings to slide onto it going forward. Over multiple refills, the savings on packaging and plastic cartridge cost add up — you're paying for filament, not a new spool body, on every subsequent purchase.
Will my AMS still recognize the material automatically if I'm using a refill?
Yes — the RFID chip that tells your AMS the material type, color, and inventory data lives inside each individual Bambu refill filament package, not in the reusable spool frame itself. So every time you load a new refill ring onto this spool, your AMS reads that fresh RFID tag and auto-detects the correct profile exactly like it would with a standard cartridge.
Why is this labeled 'Low Temp' — can I use it for ABS or Nylon?
No — this white ABS-bodied frame is specifically optimized for standard, low-temperature materials like PLA and PETG, rated for up to 70°C in the bed/dryer environment. Bambu makes a separate black high-temperature variant for engineering filaments like ABS, ASA, and Nylon; using the low-temp spool with a high-temp material or drying cycle risks warping the spool frame itself.
Can I swap colors mid-roll if I want to switch projects?
No, and Bambu is explicit about this: the spool is engineered to host one refill ring from start to finish. Opening it before the roll is fully consumed releases the wound tension in the filament coil, causing it to unravel and bird-nest into a permanent tangle. If you want multiple active colors running concurrently, you need a separate master spool per color, not one spool you swap between.
What are the exact dimensions, and will it fit my AMS without rubbing?
It's built to Bambu's standardized 200 × 200 × 67mm spool dimensions, engineered to give precise rolling clearance inside the AMS specifically to avoid friction-induced feeding errors or jams. It also spins cleanly on a standard rear spool mount if you're not running it through an AMS, so fitment shouldn't be a concern either way.
How do I actually load a new refill ring onto this spool step by step?
Align the locator block on the Wide Piece with the notch on your refill's inner core, slide it in, then insert the Narrow Piece from the opposite side and push the two halves flush together. Twist the narrow piece clockwise until you hear a distinct click-lock, confirm the spacing shims are seated near the alignment triangle, then tear away the temporary external retention strips. Bambu's product video walks through this same sequence visually.
