Achieve superior vertical accuracy and a flawless bottom surface finish with the Bambu Smooth PEI Plate. Designed for precision, this build plate features a specially selected matte PEI sheet laminated onto a high-strength spring steel core.

This plate contributes to improved Z-axis precision, making it an excellent choice for printing mechanical parts that require tight tolerances and perfect alignment. Unlike textured plates, this surface imparts a smooth, matte finish to the bottom of your objects, enhancing their aesthetic appeal.

Bambu Lab Smooth PEI Plate for P1 / X1 / A1

Features

  • High Z-Axis Precision: The flat, smooth surface ensures consistent layer stacking in the vertical dimension, critical for parts requiring high fit accuracy.
  • Smooth Matte Finish: Leaves a clean, professional matte texture on the bottom of your prints, hiding layer lines typically seen on the first layer.
  • Broad Material Compatibility: Supports common materials like PLA, TPU, and PETG, as well as engineering-grade filaments such as ABS and Nylon (with appropriate adhesive).
  • Reliable Magnetic Base: Built on a 0.5mm thick stainless spring steel plate. This robust core enhances magnetic adhesion to the heatbed, preventing warping even when printing large models with materials like ABS, PC, or Nylon.

Recommended Settings

Material Heatbed Temp Glue Stick Required?
PLA / PLA-CF / PLA-GF 45~60°C No
PETG / PETG-CF 60~80°C Recommended
TPU 35~45°C Recommended
PVA 45~60°C Recommended
ABS / ASA 90~100°C Required
PC / PC-CF 90~110°C Required
PA / PA-CF / PAHT-CF 90~110°C Required
PET-CF 80~100°C Required

Care & Considerations

  • Cool Down First: Always wait a few minutes for the plate to cool down before removing prints. This prevents damage to the PEI surface and extends the product's lifespan.
  • Cleaning: Clean regularly with warm water and detergent to remove dust and grease, which decrease adhesion. Do NOT use Acetone, as it will damage the PEI surface.
  • Bubble Removal: If bubbles appear under the PEI sheet, place the plate on a heatbed heated to 80°C for several hours to help eliminate them.
  • A1 User Note: Due to the thicker Smooth PEI coating, magnetic attraction is slightly reduced. Ensure the plate is perfectly aligned to prevent corner lifting on the A1.
  • Restoration: If adhesion decreases over time, carefully sanding the surface with fine-grit sandpaper (600 grit) can help restore grip.
  • Consumable Item: The PEI sheet will degrade over time with normal use. Warranty covers manufacturing defects only, not cosmetic wear like scratches or dents.

Installation Steps for X1 / P1 / P2S / X2D / A1

Installation Steps for X1 / P1 / P2S / X2D / A1
  1. Align: Orient the plate so the text faces you and align it with the back fixed points of the printer's platform.
  2. Lower: Gently lower the plate onto the magnetic base.
  3. Verify: Ensure the edges are parallel with the heatbed and no corners are lifted.

About this product

What's the actual benefit of a smooth PEI plate over the textured one my printer came with?
Better Z-axis precision and a clean, professional matte finish on the bottom of every print. Because the surface is flat rather than textured, layer stacking is more consistent in the vertical direction, which matters for parts needing tight tolerances or a flush mounting face. The tradeoff is it hides first-layer texture, not first-layer flaws, so bed leveling still needs to be dialed in.
Do I need glue on this plate for every material?
No — only certain materials need glue on this plate. PLA/PLA-CF/PLA-GF need none at 45-60°C. PETG, TPU, and PVA recommend glue. ABS/ASA, PC/PC-CF, PA/PA-CF/PAHT-CF, and PET-CF all require it, running 80-110°C depending on material. Skipping glue on the required-tier materials is the most common cause of warping or lifted corners on this plate.
Can I clean this plate with alcohol or acetone if soap isn't cutting it?
Isopropyl alcohol is fine for a quick wipe between prints, but for real grease or dust buildup, warm water and dish detergent is what Bambu and the plate's own listing recommend — alcohol alone tends to just spread oils around rather than lifting them. Acetone specifically is a hard no: it will damage the PEI coating outright, not just wear it down faster, so keep it away from this plate entirely.
My A1's corners keep lifting off this plate — is that a defect?
Likely not a defect. On the A1, this plate's thicker PEI coating slightly reduces magnetic attraction compared to a standard plate, so alignment matters more than usual. Make sure the plate is seated flush against the back fixed points with no gap before printing — a corner that isn't fully engaged with the magnetic base is the most common cause of lifting on this specific printer.
How long should this plate actually last before I need a replacement?
It's explicitly sold as a consumable — Bambu's own listing states the PEI sheet degrades with normal use over time, and warranty only covers manufacturing defects, not cosmetic wear like scratches or dents. If adhesion starts dropping off, a light sand with 600-grit paper can restore some grip before you need to replace it outright, but expect a gradual falloff rather than a hard failure point.
I see bubbles forming under the PEI sheet — is the plate ruined?
Not necessarily. There's a specific fix: place the plate on a heatbed heated to 80°C for several hours, which can help work the bubbles back out as the adhesive re-settles. It's not guaranteed on every bubble, especially larger or older ones, but it's worth trying before assuming the plate needs replacing.
