PETG-HF — fast, functional, and drama-free

Regular PETG has a known problem on fast printers: stringing, ooze, and rough layer lines that force you to slow everything down. PETG-HF fixes that. ABS — heat resistance with a trade-off

ABS has two things going for it: it handles heat up to around 100°C (well above PLA and PETG), and it's the only common 3D printing material you can smooth with acetone vapor to get a near-injection-molded surface finish. If either of those matter to your project, ABS is worth the extra setup.

Support materials: PVA and Breakaway

PVA dissolves completely in water. You print your model with PVA supports, drop it in water, and the supports are gone with no physical removal needed. This is the cleanest solution for complex models with internal voids, tight overhangs, and intricate geometry where you can't reach the supports manually. It pairs best with PLA and requires a dry storage environment, since PVA absorbs moisture aggressively and will jam if wet.

Breakaway is a rigid support material that snaps cleanly away from the model surface rather than fusing to it. No dissolving needed: it just pops off. Which filament should you use?
